Teads

Summary

Teads is an exchange offering exclusively what they call a native video advertising product—outstream video. You can learn more about their formats here. Teads inventory is bought like any other video inventory on the DSP, no special native creative required. All of Teads' inventory is also direct from publisher, ensuring high quality inventory. Teads' outstream video is viewable by design, launching only when in view on a user’s screen. By default, inventory purchased in the open market continues to play when the user scrolls out of view.

In terms of performance, you should expect that outstream has lower completion rates than in-stream video, with much higher viewability.

Quick facts/benefits about Teads:

  • Teads is the inventor of Outstream video.

  • Teads has 1.2 billion unique users (720 million on mobile).

  • Teads includes over 500 publishers.

  • Teads has a competitive landscape asset, and is already integrated with DBM, TubeMogul, TTD, AppNexus, just to name a few.

  • Some global reach

Teads works with a number of prominent publishers, including CIO, Business Insider, Time and The Washington Post in North America, and El Pais, El Mundo, and CNN Mexico in Latin America. See the Teads Programmatic One-Sheeter for a larger list of publishers, or use the inventory planner in Basis.

Teads Viewable Display

Some of Teads' inventory supports either video or display ads. These units are 90%+ mobile web/app. In the same place that an outstream video could display, a 300x250 display ad can be served. Since the ad is not loaded until the unit scrolls onto the screen, it is highly viewable. Bid on this inventory like any other display inventory.

Teads Studio Formats

Teads offers several unique rich media formats. These are also available programmatically, and Basis is tested and certified for running these formats. See the Viewable Display One-Sheeter about these formats.

Basis does not resell Teads creative services; it would be a matter of direct conversation between Teads and Basis customers. Teads Studio is also available as a self-serve UI— access is subject to minimums and again is a matter to be negotiated between Teads and customers.

Previous guidance was that these should always be uploaded as ad tags. Teads now prefers that only display ads should be uploaded as ad tags. Video should be uploaded as VAST.

These ads require special handling on upload to be permitted to run. See technical considerations below.

Technical Considerations

Teads Studio Ads

Placements for Teads Studio ads are treated as 300x250 by Teads. As such, special handling is required on Basis to ensure that ads are approved and no accidental delivery occurs

Uploading the Ad

When uploading the ad, upload as a standard Ad Tag size 300x250.

Include this in the ad name: “Teads Studio”.

Campaign Targeting

Make sure that you only target the relevant Teads inventory. As the ad size is 300x250, unless you make sure that the ad is used only in campaigns targeting appropriate inventory, it will bid on any auction where the size is 300x250. If this occurs, the ads will run in places where they can't render correctly and are not permitted by publishers. This is deemed an ad quality violation, and no refunds will be provided.

Contact Support

Since this is not normally a permissible ad, you will need to specially request approval for these ads. They may be denied during the review process otherwise. Once you have configured the ad(s) and campaign(s), please contact Basis Support and request special approval of these ads. Indicate the ad ID and state that you have correctly targeted your campaigns and are not using the ad in any other campaigns targeting other inventory.
